Therapeutic Word of the Day: Security

“There is no such thing as 100% security. Bad things can and will happen. Live your life despite this.”

With terrorism fears and mass shootings, people are scared and want to feel more secure. People want the government to fix the problem and make things safe again. While this is understandable and natural, it is also unrealistic. Our lives have not, and never will be, safe. There is no such thing as safety. Anything can harm or even kill us. It is a normal part of life. This is hard to hear for someone who has lost someone due to the actions of evil, deranged terrorist. This is not an excuse, for people need to pay for their actions, but one cannot expect to be 100% safe.

You can notice your surroundings, watch the evening news, avoid crowded places and still die by falling out of your bed. You are not safe. In truth, something in time will kill you. We do not live forever. The goal is to delay it as long as possible. The question is, do we spend our energy delaying death or living life?
