“Too little and you’re dead. Too much and you’re burned out. Achieve balance.”
Anxiety, like Pain, is a defense mechanism that warns us of danger. Anxiety provides a critical task for our survival. Anxiety warns of threats, both internal and external. Without anxiety’s warning of danger, we would not live long.
However, too much anxiety can cripple us. It has been proven high levels of anxiety over time can damage the brain’s limbic system, causing depression-like symptoms. There is no consequence depression and anxiety are linked. If you have high levels of anxiety, ask yourself what your true fear is. It may not be what you think. Developing coping skills and having a good support system also helps, but takes work to develop. Working to overcome high levels of anxiety will take time and patience, but it can be done.
