“The food is not important, it is the people around you. Some of them may not be here next year. Be thankful they are now.”

For many, Thanksgiving is about three things, food, football, and getting off from work. While all three of those things are good, it is not the point. The purpose of Thanksgiving is taking the time to consider what you have in life, and being thankful for it. This is especially true for the people in your life.

The problem about being human is we eventually die, and we do not know when this will be. Most do not like to think about death and avoid it as it is unpleasant. The truth is, one day your loved ones will die, and so will you. This could be tomorrow, next month, next year, or 40 years from now. The longer you live, the more people you will loose.

Thanksgiving is to remind you of this and to be grateful these people are still here. Enjoy them, and let them know how you feel about them. It is possible you may not be the one around next year, and you want them to know how you feel, so they have this message to take with them.

Enjoy the day, have fun, but be thankful for all you have.
