Therapeutic Word of the Day: Safe Space

“There is no such thing. To succeed in life, you must be strong. If you worry about being offended, you will accomplish nothing.”

I am sorry to say, but our youth of today are destroying themselves with social justice and extreme political correctness. Five years ago I would imagine no one had ever heard of the term “Safe Space,” and would laugh. Most are protesting to protest so that they can feel powerful and important. With the advent of social media, people have an overinflated sense of importance. Here is the truth: the world would go on just fine without you, deal with it.

The problem is, many are not dealing with it. We now have colleges canceling classes, so they do not offend people. We have “cuddle rooms” where stressed out students can go hug puppies and kittens due to their overwhelming stress. Ask yourself this: if these kids cannot handle a midterm, how can they handle a family, a mortgage, a career? I thought the point of college was to prepare people for a career and the real world, not shelter from it.

I am sorry, but there is no such thing as a “Safe Space.” It does not exist. Harm can come to anyone, anywhere. This is a fact of life. If you are so afraid of being offended, then you are offending me, and others who see such nonsense. Freedom of speech is important, so important it is called the 1st Amendment. If we start to censor people’s speech, even if it is hateful or misguided, then any speech can be censored. This is a door once opened will lead to our destruction.
