Therapeutic Word of the Day: Career

“Careers are not jobs; careers are something long lasting and enjoyable but are difficult to create.”

If you are looking for a job to make you happy, you are mistaken. A job is something that changes over time from employer to employer. When one has a job, they have little control over their professional life. A career is something far more satisfying. Like anything meaningful in life, a career is something that takes time and effort.

A career is something you do because you like to do it. The person you are working for does not matter as much, as long as it is something you enjoy doing. Many people get up to jobs they hate and feel there is no other option. As yourself, do you have a job, or do you have a career? While money will always be a valid concern, those with careers do not focus on the money as much as others. They put their energies making themselves better, and over time more money comes as a result. Sometimes careers take years to achieve, sometimes upwards of 10-20 years. It took me 15 years to make a career out of my dreams, and I am still working to improve myself. Someone with a career is growing and becoming better over time and is a better person for it.
