About The Workshop
Autism has become a crisis for our children and our society. Every year thousands are diagnosed with Autism, and many are told there is little hope for a functional life. This is incorrect as there are treatments for Autism of any severity. As a therapist specializing in treating high functioning Autism and someone on the Autism Spectrum, I have devised a workshop to help teach mental health professionals how to begin treating Autism.
In this workshop, you will learn how Autism was treated in the past and how to diagnose Autism. I will go into depth in treating high-functioning Autism, from building rapport to dealing with overstimulation and rigidity. In addition, you will learn how Insight oriented therapy, CBT, and family therapy can be used together in treating Autism. You will earn 3 hours of CEUs if you are an LPC or Psychologist within Texas.

At the beginning of the workshop, you will learn about the history of Autism, including how it was diagnosed and how this diagnosis has changed over time. You will also learn about past treatments for Autism, and why many of these treatments did not work.
Defining & Diagnosing Autism
Autism has often been misunderstood, so much so many people assume Autism is a static condition with little hope of change. You will learn how to define Autism and the likely causes of Autism for many. You will also learn how to diagnose Autism and tell the difference between Autism and ADHD.
Treating High Functioning Autism
In this central portion of the workshop, you will learn how to treat someone on the higher end of the Autism Spectrum. You will learn how to build rapport with your Client, find strengths within your Client, and build healthy routines for your Client to follow. In addition, you will learn Cognitive Behavioral Techniques to help your Clients change how they think about themselves and Family therapy to teach family members about Autism.
